In January I wrote about creating a workable wardrobe and investing in interchangeable pieces. The first piece that I have added to my wardrobe this year is a leather jacket from Zara. Well actually it is a faux leather jacket but when I saw it, it was too perfect to pass up on the matter of not actually being leather.

I had been searching for a leather jacket for years as I hold it in similar regard to a good trench coat as a great transitional piece for Autumn and Summer. I really struggled to find one that suited me as I have quite broad shoulders so jackets and blazers that are too structured really bulk me up. I also carry weight in my stomach area so the bomber jacket style also didn’t suit me.

This jacket works for me due to it being soft and unstructured unlike the biker/bomber leather jacket style. It cuts in just above my hips rather than being cropped higher which would accentuate my stomach. The draped neck also makes my shoulders look smaller and draws attention away from my stomach.

There are many different types of leather jackets and investing in one can be expensive even if you go with the faux look. My biggest advice is try on heaps of varied styles, while I think the boxier more structured jackets suit more petite people this is a guide not a rule. Also think about colour – I think black is the best option for an investment piece however a brown or grey may suit your wardrobe better.

I have listed a few of my favourites down below that are currently for sale but would also recommend checking out Jeans West when they have their 40% off sales – you can get a real leather jacket for an absolute steal.

Looks awesome with that lace dress. I’d be rocking this look right now if my lace dress wasn’t to slinky and tight (and like 4 years old. this old girl has lived way too much life to still fit it!)

YOU LOOK HAWT. And I like the fact it’s faux better, you go girl!
